I actually wanted to purchase a different Bissell sweeper model, but this is the only one that I could find for sale in my town, so I gave up and bought it. I saved my receipt because I expected that I would want to return it.
First of all, the instructions for assembly are printed in light green on the inside flap of the box. I followed them and it assembled very quickly. The handle is made of several tapered metal tubes that have to be nested inside one another. I put a newspaper down on our brick hearth and really jammed that handle down to secure the tapered tubes. They went together really snugly. I can't pull them apart now if I wanted to, and they are easily hefty-enough to handle the initial abuse. Then you just screw the handle onto the cleaning head, being careful to secure it tightly, and it's ready to go.
I have three kids - 8, 6, and 1. There are food particles on my floor all the time. I bought the sweeper to take over for my broom which gets used about six times daily. At first I was really dissappointed with it's performance on my linoleum floor. It didn't pick up anything. The cheerios just got pushed around. I flipped it over and realized that the brush rollers are positioned up off of the floor slightly, to accommodate carpet pile. However, the wheels are able to flex up into the sweeper body, so I decided to try it again, pushing down on the handle firmly to ensure contact between the sweeper rolls and the linoleum. Presto! It works like a charm, and picks up everything.
I have been using it now for several days, and I have definitely decided to keep it. It's "loosening up" a bit, and really works well. It won't replace my broom for more detailed cleaning, but I love the time it saves me for keeping things tidy. Last night it picked up about a half-cup of sticky angel hair pasta from under the high chair.
